Comida Mexican Taqueria, located at at 131 Essex Street in Salem, had its grand opening on Thursday, Sept. 30. Comida is the creation of Renny Waldron of Cambridge, who has several years’ experience managing restaurants around greater Boston. Waldron’s interest in Mexican food was sparked during the four years he spent working at Ole Mexican Grill in Cambridge. The restaurant business is familiar to the Waldron family, as Renny’s father used to work as a chef in New York City. The Waldron family has created Comida out of their combined taste for fine Mexican fare, and the menu is the result of the influence of many taquerias that dot Boston and Cambridge.
All of Comida’s offerings are made in-house– as one yelper remarked, “Comida is a true homemade Mexican Taqueria”. One will be hard-pressed to find a taqueria that offers their own mole poblano sauce, a unique set of Mexican cheeses (Queso Chihuahua, Queso Fresco and Queso Oaxaca) and specials such as chipotle-roasted almonds and jicama salad. Comida strives to put forth the freshest product possible, going to great lengths to find local produce and locally grown meats. The Waldrons are proud of the result — a wide variety of inexpensive, creative dishes which can be purchased in a bright, colorful eatery decorated with authentic Mexican handcrafts and original art. Come on in and see Comida Mexican Taqueria for yourself!
